So many of us want to delve into uncharted territory. We know that the only way we can truly grow is by taking leaps into areas that we haven’t been in previously. Our plans for the new year fuel us up until we allow the self-doubt to take over. This experience can be marked by one simple internal dilemma. We don’t trust ourselves.  

The good often die young, wrapped in innocence and tragedy. Young black girls and boys from the Virgin Islands succumb to a final fate that they in no way attracted or deserved. On their due date, they awake with no intention of saying goodbye to the world. Yet, time and time again an entire community is left searching for hope, like looking for a needle in a haystack. 

Another year of life is a gift that should be spent not only celebrating, but also reflecting.

When our sense of self is not rooted in who we are authentically, naturally, and purely it can easily become another limiting belief for us.

America is indeed racist, but it’s also been apathetic, complacent, silent, indifferent, and passive for far too long. An equally disconcerting truth has come to light in this country. It lacks depth.

The peace that we all have been seeking out is accessible to us right now, in this very moment. We’ll overlook it every time though, so long as we neglect the present, miss the silence, and move past the stillness.

A friend and I were discussing what these past few months have taught us and one thing remained clear and consistent for me. Everything starts with me. As I’ve grown I’ve developed more and more of my own internal locus of control. That is resilience.

It is such a privilege to experience and feel the spectrum of human emotion in such a short period. Yes, I said it, a privilege. We come out with a much more interesting story to tell. One that other people can feel.
